1 Million Words - what, what???

Yes - that is correct!!  The Reading teachers, librarian and principal have been brainstorming for some incentives for Reading and we have come up with some things that we think will be a fun competition for the students.

100 Point Club -

Once the students earn 100 AR points they will receive a t-shirt.  We are constantly encouraging the students to read and we hope to give out many 100 point t-shirts because that means the students are reading!!!

One Million Word Challenge -

We are implementing the One Million Word Challenge where we are keeping a count  of words rather than points.  There are some pretty great incentives associated with this club and this is a great opportunity for the students to gain knowledge while reading and earning incentives along the way to one million words.  This started on October 7, 2013 and through April 30, 2014.

100,000 Words -
The student will get their name on the Million Word Challenge bulletin board.

250,000 words -
The students will get 10 tickets to enter the weekly positive behavior drawing.

500,000 words -
The students will get a blizzard from Dairy Queen.

750, 000 words -
The students will get an art lesson and will get to paint a ceiling tile for the library, hallway or reading classroom.

One Million words
The students will have lunch with the principal and the librarian and get their picture in the Optic Herald and on the school website.  They will be recognized at the school board meeting and will have their picture on a "million dollar bill" placed in the hallway.

Please help your child by encouraging them to read at home.  Just 20-30 minutes each night is a great start.  A letter is being sent home with information about the One Million Word Challenge so ask your child about it and support them in this challenge.  We hope our students become lifelong readers and enjoy reading material of different genres.

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.
